Introduction

Nirmala Sitaraman during her budget speech for the fiscal year 2023-2024. “PM Vishwakarma Scheme,” received approval from the Union Cabinet on August 16, 2023, and is set to be launched on September 17, 2023, coinciding with Vishwakarma Jayanti.
The primary objective behind this initiative is to provide financial support to artists, craftsmen, and small business owners. The government has allocated a budget of Rs. 13,000 crore for the smooth implementation of the PMVishwakarma Yojana. The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises is the nodal ministry responsible for overseeing this scheme.
Loan Structure and Skill Training
Under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, eligible artists, and craftsmen can avail themselves of loans with exceptionally low interest rates. In the first phase, a loan of up to Rs. 1,00,000 will be provided at a mere 5% interest rate. If the loan is repaid successfully, beneficiaries can subsequently access a loan of up to Rs. 2,00,000 at the same low interest rate in the second phase.
But that’s not all; this scheme also emphasizes skill development. Selected trainees will receive a stipend of Rs. 500 per day during their training period. Moreover, financial assistance of Rs. 15,000 will be granted to help craftsmen and artisans purchase advanced tools for their businesses.

Eligibility of PM Vishwakarma Yojana
To be eligible for PMVishwakarma Yojana, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- They should be Indian residents.
- They must be artisans or craftsmen.
- The applicant’s age should be 18 years or above.
- They should not have availed benefits from schemes like PMEGP, PM SVANidhi, or Mudra Loan.
Applying for the scheme is made easy through an online application form, available on the official PM Vishwakarma Yojana website. Beneficiaries can register using their mobile numbers and Aadhar cards, which are verified through OTP authentication. After successful verification, applicants can fill out the registration form with their personal and trade-related details.
The application process also allows for the submission of required documents. After the application is submitted, concerned officials will verify the details, and the collateral-free loan will be disbursed through commercial banks, regional rural banks, and other financial institutions.
